El aire nuevo que circula por las páginas de El espíritu de la Liturgia le presta atractivos de ensayo modern style, pero sin menoscabo de la profundidad y pureza de la doctrina. Son siete brillantes capítulos, o ensayos, si se quiere, donde Guardini, haciendo honor a la proverbial claridad latina, que a él le viene de la sangre, estudia en limpia prosa la oración, la comunidad, el estilo y el simbolismo litúrgicos; la Liturgia como juego, la majestad de la Liturgia y la primacía del Logos sobre el Ethos. A esta amenidad sugestiva, a este encanto con que Guardini sabe hablar de la Liturgia, debe buena parte del éxito de su libro . Discurre libremente sobre el tema, como quien, teniendo bien asi miladas las fuentes, ya no hubiera de preocuparse sino de exponerlas a través de su personalidad, que las ha infundido renovado aliento. Por otra parte, El espíritu de la Liturgia revela una extraordinaria preparación filosófico-teológica, y está llamado a hacer en España, como ya lo ha hecho en Alemania y otras naciones, un gran bien, no sólo al pueblo fiel, sino a la muchedumbre semiapóstata de artistas, hombres de ciencia y literatos, que encontrará en Guardini al hombre que ha sabido exponer, de un lado, todo lo que hay de hechicero y maravilloso en el arte litúrgico, y de otro, todo lo que hay de peligroso y absurdo en acercarse a la Liturgia por el camino sentimental de un enfermizo esteticismo. En pocos capítulos brilla tanto el autor como cuando razona, ya en las postrimerías del libro, lo que él llama "la primacía del Logos sobre el Ethos”. Aquella vindicación de la Inteligencia y la Verdad, tan postergadas por el escepticismo crítico como por el arte voluntarista de un Tolstoi, resulta indirectamente una de las más cálidas y elocuentes páginas de filosofía de la historia que se han escrito en nuestros tiempos. Digamos, por último, que el P. Félix García ha enriquecido la traducción castellana con un extenso prólogo acerca del renacimiento litúrgico, en el que campean la exquisita erudición y la vehemencia caudalosa del lenguaje que distinguen sus doctos trabajos. El valor educativo de la Liturgia católica, de nuestro insigne Gomá, publicado el mismo año que la obra alemana que comentamos, concluye con una magistral disertación sobre la crisis y la restauración de la Liturgia. A poner fin a esa lamentable decadencia y a acelerar esa restauración, mejorando el ambiente social y el mismo ambiente litúrgico, influyendo en la formación y promoviendo una intensa actuación litúrgica que sepa aprovechar el renacimiento religioso de nuestros días, ha de contribuir sin duda alguna El espiritu de la Liturgia, tan oportunamente traducido al castellano.“
