    • S. 574 f.: „Ich bin der Meinung, daß Romano Guardinis Mißtrauen gegen den Christus Dostojevskijs weithin berechtigt ist. Sowohl Myschkin als „Christussymbol" als auch die Christusgestalt im „Poem vom Großinquisitor" sind in einer solch fragwürdigen Bindungslosigkeit an Dogmen, Kirche und Kultus, ja selbst an Gott dargestellt, um nicht sehr schwere Probleme aufzugeben. Diese eigentümliche innere Freiheit des Dostojevskij'schen Christus hat einmal ihre Wurzel im russischen Spiritualismus, zum anderen (und sehr wohl vom ersten zu unterscheiden!) im liberalen Christusbild der Strauß, Renan u. a. Dieser „Protestantismus“ im Werk Dostojevskijs gibt vielen seiner Aussagen eine merkwürdige Zweideutigkeit.“

    • S. 30: „Prominent among these are those formulated by the enigmatic Nicholas Berdyaev in his well-known work, Dostoevsky, and by the distinguished Catholic theologian, Romano Guardini, in his celebrated study of Dostoevsky, Religiöse Gestalten in Dostojewskijs Werk, which, except for a few chapters, has not yet been translated into English. Berdyaev views the Legend as more an attack on godless and materialistic socialism than on Roman Catholic theocracy.[31 ...] Guardini, who interprets the Legend of the Grand Inquisitor on an universal level, interestingly but almost apologetically, says it is not only the story of Ivan Karamazov and his family, but also, and mainly, the story of man and the human family. He concludes: "What happens to this family, happens to all! And in this trial ... who then is the accused? It is man. And who is the accuser? Man. Who is the defence attorny, who is the witness, and finally, who is the judge? – it is man each time. Cunneen, Fall, 1952, p. 84.]“ In addition, it should be noted that for Berdyaev the Christ of the Legend represents the authentic image of Christ, while for Guardini, He is a "False Christ" - the "notional product" of Ivan's belief. Guardini is especially critical of Dostoevsky's conception of human life, since he claims it has little or no contact "with the middle level which the feet of men touch, that of the everyday average." "This domain," Guardini continues, "also forms an essential aspect of the Christian fact as an historical reality: the Church. By essence she is the Church of all, not only of exceptional beings; the Church of the ordinary, and not only of the heroic hours of life.“[33 Ibid., p. 63]“
    • S. 31: „However, Guardini misses the important fact that what Dostoevsky uncompromisingly rejects is the Roman Catholic system of superrogatory works, since he believes that good works must be done not for profit, but as an expression of genuine love. This is a kind of perfect, selfless love that is free of utilitarian concern, and is an integral aspect of the contemplative, metaphysical Church of the East as contrasted with the Church of the West.“

Et particulièrement „de dissiper une sorte de méfiance qui, du côté catholique, entoure la Légende, méfiance qui s´exprime, par exemple, dans le livre de Romano Guardini“ (p. 8) cf. R. Guardini, L´univers religieux de Dostoievski). Ici l´introducteur a vraiment raison qui reproche au théologien allemand d´avoir „noirei et même altéré les traits du révolté“ (p. 12).“
