    • "Restano impresse nella memoria le parole con cui ormai quasi cento anni fa Romano Guardini esprimeva la gioiosa speranza che allora si affermava in lui e in molti altri: «Un evento di incalcolabile portata è iniziato: la Chiesa si risveglia nelle anime». Con questo intendeva dire che la Chiesa non era più, come prima, semplicemente un apparato che ci si presenta dal di fuori, vissuta e percepita come una specie di ufficio, ma che iniziava a essere sentita viva nei cuori stessi: non come qualcosa di esteriore ma che ci toccava dal di dentro. Circa mezzo secolo dopo, riflettendo di nuovo su quel processo... e guardando a cosa era appena accaduto, fui tentato di capovolgere la frase: «La Chiesa muore nelle anime»."
